Reduce Potable Water for Non-Recreational Landscaping Areas

Potable WaterCleveland Charter High School uses native and adapted planting and low water irrigation systems. All new and refurbished landscape areas consist primarily of drought tolerant plant material that requires a minimum of maintenance and is resilient.

Green spaces and under-planting of trees utilize plants tolerant of drought and appropriate to and compatible with the ecology, history, and conditions of the site. We have maximized the use of trees to provide as much natural shade as possible. The use of mulch, under-planting, and shade help to reduce evaporation, keeping the water used for irrigation in the soil.

Planted areas also provide for filtration and cleaning of sediment and pollutant-born run-off.
