Protect your personal valuables:

Don't leave any vuluables within reach of students.

Make sure students understand classroom boundaries.

Never provide your keys to a student.

Make sure to lock your classroom whenever you leave.

Never leave students without adult supervision.

Helpful Hints

Post and communicate your classroom rules and behavioral expectations.
Consequences should be progressive and appropriate.
Be consistent in the implementation of your classroom rules.
Be FIRM, FAIR, and FRIENDLY; do not escalate or provoke.
Model the behavior that you require of your students.
Communicate with the student’s parents/guardians at the first sign of defiance or disruption.
Condemn the behavior; do not condemn the individual.
Students respond well when they realize that the teacher and parents have a frequent and open line of communication.
