Work Permits
How to get a work permit?
1. The first step is to find a job.
2, Complete a work permit application (this form is entitled: STATEMENT OF INTENT TO EMPLOY A MINOR AND REQUEST FOR A WORK PERMIT – CDE Form B1-1). This form is available for you to download below. It must be signed by the student, a parent and the employer.
3. Submit the application to the Counseling office for verification.
4. Your application will be reviewed by your Counselor, after that you will need to bring in the completed STATEMENT OF INTENT TO EMPLOY A MINOR AND REQUEST FOR A WORK PERMIT – CDE Form B1-1 to the College & Career Center in i-121 with ORIGINAL signatures ONLY in order for it to be processed!
5. Pick up Work Permit before the end of day by 3:30 pm or the following day starting at 8:30 am. You will need a current photo I.D. for your work permit to be issued.
Entertainment Work Permits (EWP)
If you are a minor seeking a work permit in the entertainment business, minors may download the Entertainment Work Permit Application HERE. The EWP must be signed and stamped by the minor's School of Attendance. The document may be emailed to the minor's school administrator or designee for verification of Satisfactory Grades and Attendance. The LAUSD WEE Office CANNOT sign on the school's behalf.
It is the parent/guardian's responsibility to contact the Entertainment Work Permit office to obtain the legal work permit. Additional information about obtaining an Entertainment Work Permit may be found by visiting the EWP Website: https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/entertainment-work-permit.htm
The Statement of Intent to Employ a Minor and Request for a Work Permit - Certificate of Age (CDE Form B1-1) can be printed from the file attached.
During school vacations Work Permits can be processed at the Work Experience Education office at Beaudry on the 25th floor. There will be signs leading to their office in the building. Their office hours are from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday; there is no need for an appointment.
