Weekly Updates 17-18

Week of June 4th:

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday we will be on Finals Schedule. School will let out at 12:36 PM each of those days.

Join the Facilities Division Tuesday at 6 PM in the MPR as LAUSD representatives discuss updates on the school campus modernization project. 

Cap and gown distribution for graduating seniors is Wednesday at 10 AM in the MPR.  Students must be off the stop clearance list in order to pick up their cap, gown, and graduation tickets.

Locker cleanout is Wednesday at 1 PM.  Any items left in lockers after that time will be discarded or donates. 

Thursday is the last day of instruction. Please make sure to attend. We will be on a minimum day schedule and school will let out at 12:34 PM.

Mandatory graduation rehearsals is on Thursday at 8 AM in the Big Gym.  The graduation ceremony is at 6 PM on the Football Field. Gates will open for ticket holders at 5 PM.  There are still some premium parking permits on the basketball blacktop available for purchase for the ceremony.  Forms on on the school website.  Permits are $20 and may be purchased Monday-Wednesday from 7:30 to 8 AM in the Principal's Conference Room.

Week of May 28th: 

Class of 2018: this year, Friends of Cleveland will be offering Graduation premium parking on the Basketball Blacktop for $20.  For more information on how to purchase a permit, please go onto the website under the Students tab, Senior Activities section, Graduation 2018 Information link. 

There is no school on Monday in observance of Memorial Day. 

Tuesday is Senior Awards Night at 5 PM in the Big Gym. 

Join us Wednesday for the Spring Concert as the Beginning, Concert and Jazz Bands perform in the MPR at 6 PM. 

On Friday evening, Cleveland Cheer presents its Celebration Dance Show at 6 PM in the MPR. Tickets will be available from any cheerleader or in room F-9. Tickets will not be sold at the door. 

Looking ahead: Finals begin June 4. We will be on a minimum day schedule the entire last week of school.  Mandatory graduation rehearsals is on June 7 at 8 AM and the ceremony is at 6 PM that evening.  And students, make sure to attend the last day of school on June 7 as we will host an end-of-year Attendance Carnival.

Week of May 21st:

Congratulations to Girls Softball for winning the LA City Section Division 1 Championship Title. And congratulations to the Jazz Band for placing 1st in its division at the West Ranch HS Jazz Festival.
 
Tuesday is the Spring Choir Concert. Join us in the MPR at 6 PM for an unforgettable evening of music.
 
SBAC testing continues Wednesday and Thursday for select 11th grade students.
 
Thursday is our last Cocoa with the Counselors at 9:15 AM in the PCR.

Week of May 14th:

AP Testing continues this week. Good luck to all those taking an exam.
 
There will be a Cleveland Governance Council meeting Tuesday at 3:15 PM in the PCR.
 
Join us Thursday for Coffee with the Administrators where we will be going over financial literacy for postsecondary education.

Week of May 7th:

AP testing begins this week.  State SBAC testing for select 11th grade students also continues this week.  Good luck to all out scholars.

Week of April 23rd:

We will be participating in a Voter Registration Drive on Tuesday and Wednesday at Lunch on the Quad.

CAST Testing will be administered to select students on Wednesday and Friday. Additionally, on Wednesday, we will have Earth Day activities on the Quad at Lunch.

Join us for Cocoa with the Counselors Thursday at 9:15 AM in the Parent Center.

Don’t miss the last two performances for Oliver! Friday and Saturday at 7 PM in the MPR.

On Saturday from 10 AM to noon, we will also be hosting a District-sponsored Know Your Rights Informational Meeting for Immigrant families in the MPR. Student, parents, and community members are welcome to attend.

Week of April 16th:

 

This is Senior Spirit Week.  Class of 2018, don’t forget to dress up every day to show your senior pride. 

There will be a CGC meeting Tuesday at 3:15 PM in the PCR.

ELPAC testing begins Friday for select students.

Join us Friday or Saturday evening in the MPR for the spring musical, Oliver!

Week of April 9th:

There will be a School Site Council meeting on Tuesday at 3:15 PM in the PCR. 

Our Spring Blood Drive is Wednesday.  We also have Student Body elections Wednesday and Thursday during nutrition and lunch. 

Tickets are on Sale for the Spring musical, Oliver!  Shows are April 20, 21, 27, and 28.

 

Week of March 19th:

Tuesday is a professional development day for staff. School lets out at 1:34 PM. 

The senior class panorama picture will be taken on Wednesday during period 2.

Join us for Cocoa with the Counselors on Thursday at 9:15 AM in the Parent Center.

Thursday evening is our Open House Showcase. Classroom presentations and student performances will be from 6 PM to 7:20 PM. 

Friday is a shortened day with a 1:59 PM dismissal. Parent conferencing will be from 2-4 PM. Sign up with individual teachers by sending a note with your child or emailing the teacher directly. 

Week of March 12th:

If you have not set your clock one hour forward, please remember to do so today as Daylight Saving Time has begun. 

Join us Wednesday for the 1st annual Music Extravaganza at 6 PM in the Big Gym.

On Thursday, we will be on a shortened day schedule.  School will let out at 1:59 PM. 

You are invited to Coffee with the Administrators on Thursday at 9:15 AM in the Parent Center.

Come back Thursday evening for the Cleveland Cabinet of Schools Art Festival from 5-7 PM. 

Looking ahead: Next Thursday, March 22 is Open House and parent conferencing will be on Friday, March 23.

Week of February 26th:

Grad Nite tickets for Seniors go on sale this week at lunch in H1.

There is a mandatory meeting at lunch on Thursday in J15 for all 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students who would like to apply for a student body leadership or class president position for fall 2018.

Vision To Learn will be bringing its mobile vision care clinic to Cleveland Charter High School to provide eye exams and glasses to students who need them. If you would like to give your child permission to participate in the Vision To Learn program, please complete and sign the form on our school web site and return it to our Main Office. There is no cost for your child to participate in the program. 

Looking ahead: Cleveland is hosting an Arts Showcase on Thursday, March 15 from 5-7 PM. Open House is on March 22 and parent conferencing is on March 23.

Week of February 19th

On Wednesday, there will be a Community Meeting at 5 PM in the Library to discuss the potential GAIMS magnet proposal.
 
Thursday we have Cocoa with the Counselors at 9:15 AM in the Parent Center.
 
The Drama Department presents Inherit the Wind Thursday and Friday at 7 PM in the MPR. Don't miss the last two shows.

Week of January 15th:

There will be no school Monday in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday.

Thursday will be College Night for 9th and 10th grade students at 6 PM in the MPR.

Week of January 8th:

Monday is the first day of spring semester. School will let out at the regular 3:04 PM dismissal. All returning students should report to their fall semester period 2 classes at 7:57 AM to receive their new spring schedule.  All new students reporting for the FIRST time to Cleveland must go to the Attendance Office.

Week of December 11th:

Welcome back, Cavaliers. Based on improved air quality, school will be in session this week.  We may continue to limit outdoor activities and we will update students during the week if this occurs. Additionally, Maintenance and Operations have changed the HVAC filters throughout the campus.  

On Monday, we have the Winter Music Concert at 5:30 PM in the MPR. 

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday we will be on Finals Schedule.  School will let out at 12:36 PM each of those days.

Friday is the last day of school before winter break.  We will be on a shortened day schedule with a 1:59 PM dismissal.

Week of December 4th:

There will be a GAIMS Film and Cultural Festival on Tuesday starting at 4 PM in the MPR.

Wednesday is the Winter Music Concert at 6 PM in the MPR.

Don’t miss the last two performances of our Drama Department’s production of Inherit the Wind on Friday and Saturday at 7 PM in the MPR.

Week of November 27th: 

Tuesday is a professional development day.  School lets out at 1:34 PM. There will be no late buses. 

On Tuesday, there will also be a School Site Council meeting at 3:15 PM in the PCR. 

This is a reminder to seniors that the deadline to submit UC and CSU applications is this Thursday. 

Additionally, seniors: the last day to purchase a yearbook dedication is this Friday. Order forms are available in G-5.  

Join us Friday or Saturday at 7 PM in the MPR for the Drama production of Inherit The Wind. Tickets are available at the door.

And on Saturday, our Varsity Football team will compete in the CIF City Section Division II Championship game at El Camino College.  Game time is 3 PM.

Week of November 13th:

There will be a PTSA Meeting on Wednesday at 3:30 PM in the Parent Center.

Additionally, you are invited to the first annual Choral Winter Concert this Wednesday at 6 PM in the MPR.

Week of November 6th:

If you have not done so, don’t forget to set your clocks one hour back as Daylight Saving Time has ended .

Students who purchased a picture packet earlier in the semester, please note that your photos are available for pickup during nutrition and lunch at the Student Store. 

Please remember to return your School Experience Survey.  Your voice matters.  The deadline is fast approaching.

Wednesday is the Blood Drive all day in the MPR.  Parents and other community members are invited to donate as well.

Week of October 30th: 

On Monday, there will be a STEM program Parent Night at 6 PM in the MPR. 

Tuesday is a professional development day for staff.  School lets out at 1:34 PM.  There will be no late buses. 

Those planning to wear costumes for Halloween must still adhere to the school dress code.  Masks that completely obscure the identity of the student may not be worn, except during the lunchtime spirit activities on the Quad. Additionally, no real, toy, or replica weapons or other dangerous objects are allowed on campus. 

On Thursday, join us for Cocoa with the Counselors at 9 AM in the Parent Center. 

There is one more day left to submit your meal applications.  We are 8 short of receiving our full Title I allocation.  Every application counts.

Week of October 23rd:

Tuesday is our School Site Council meeting at 3:15 PM in the PCR.

On Wednesday, we have our College Fair periods 2 through lunch in the MPR and outdoor amphitheater.

This is a reminder if you have not submitted your meal application, please do so.  This is the last week to submit your application for it to count towards our Title I funding.

Week of October 16th:

This is Homecoming Spirit Week.  For more information, check the school website under Student Activities.  The school dress code still applies for the dress-up days.

Thursday is Coffee with the Principal at 9:15 AM in the Parent Center.

On Thursday, we will also be participating in the Great California Shakeout Earthquake Drill during period 4.

On Friday, we have the Homecoming Parade at 6 PM on the Football Field.  After the parade, we will have the Homecoming Football Game. Tickets for the game are limited and may be purchased at the Student Store.

On Saturday, we have the Homecoming Dance will be in the MPR from 7-11 PM. Tickets are available at the Student Store.  No tickets will be sold at the door. 

Week of October 9th:

Monday is a regular school day.

Tuesday we have a Cleveland Governance Council meeting at 3:15 PM in the PCR.

Wednesday we will be on a special schedule for the PSATs. School will still let out at 3:04 PM. Please check the website for details as to where all students are supposed to be on that day.

Additionally, students received a Schoology update about Sprint’s 1 Million Project.  Those who currently do not have high-speed internet at home who are interested in receiving 3GB per month of high-speed LTE data and a chromebook for free can pick up a permission slip from Ms. Amaya in the Administration Building.   

Week of October 2nd:

Tuesday is a professional development day for staff.  School lets out ta 1:34 PM. There will be no late buses.

On Thursday, we have Cocoa with the Counselors at 9:15 AM in the Parent Center.  Parents and guardians are invited to come here about news from the Counseling Office.

Thursday evening we have College Night for Juniors at 6 PM in the MPR.

We need only 140 more qualifying applications to receive our full Title I allotment for next year.  If you haven’t submitted a meal application, please do so.

Week of September 11th:

The PTSA membership drive continues this week.

Monday and Tuesday are the last days for seniors to make payments on the optional senior package.

The first Cleveland Governance Council meeting of the year will take place on Tuesday at 3:15 PM in the Principal’s Conference Room.

Join us for the first PTSA meeting of the year on Tuesday at 6 PM in the Parent Center.

On Wednesday we will be conducting a fire drill during period 2.

Additionally, on Wednesday at 6 PM in the MPR, the LAUSD Office of Environmental Health & Safety invites you to attend a California Environmental Quality Act public meeting to go over Cleveland’s campus modernization project.

Thursday is Coffee with the Principal at 9:15 AM in the Parent Center.

Thursday is also College Knowledge Night for Seniors and their parents.  This important evening provides opportunities for students and parents to learn more about college admissions and the application process, as well as opportunities to participate in a panel with admissions officers and to attend a personal statement workshop. 

Ninth and 11th grade students: Don't forget to register on the school website for the PSAT.  It is free this year but you must sign up by October 1st.  The District will register all 10th grade students separately.

Week of September 4th:

There will be no school on Monday in observance of Labor Day.

On Thursday and Friday, seniors may submit the first payment for the optional senior package during lunch at the Senior Kiosk.

This Friday is permanent program day for students.

We are looking for parents and community members to serve on the Cleveland Governance Council.  Self-nomination forms will be available on the school website starting Tuesday and will be due by Friday, September 8.

Don’t forget to submit your meal application.  Our Title I funding depends on it.  Every application counts.

Week of August 28th:

The PTSA Membership Drive begins this week. Please support this worthwhile organization.

All 9th, 10th and 11th grade students can take the PSAT for free this year. Ninth and 11th grade students must register online at the school website. The District will automatically register 10th grade students.

The senior assembly is Tuesday during periods 3 and 4. Students received summonses this past Friday.

ID Pictures will be taken on Wednesday and Thursday. Details are on the website.

Wednesday is also Back-to-School Night from 6:00 PM to 7:40 PM. There will be several parent meetings scheduled between 5 PM and 6 PM. For more information, go to the website.

Thursday we will be on a shortened day schedule for parent conferencing and school will let out at 1:59 PM. Parent conferencing is available between 2 PM and 4 PM. Please schedule with individual teachers by August 29 or do so during Back-to-School Night. 

There will be no school on Friday.

Week of August 21st:

Monday is the Solar Eclipse.  As a safety precaution, we will be on a modified bell schedule with an extended period 2 class.  School still lets out at 3:04 PM.  Details are available on the school website.

Tuesday is a professional development day for faculty.  School will let out at 1:34 PM.

Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday are grade-level assemblies.

Thursday is also the English Learner Advisory Council meeting at 10:30 AM in the Parent Center.

Week of August 14th:

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year. We look forward to seeing everyone this week.

School begins on Tuesday, August 15.  This is a regular school day with a 3:04 PM dismissal.  All students enrolled as of last Thursday may check the school website for an updated class schedule. Students will need their District Student ID Number.  New enrollees without schedules should report to the MPR on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, all students should attend their period 2 homeroom class at 7:57 AM.  In addition to the school website, alphabetical lists of students and their period 2 homeroom assignments will be posted in front of the school, near the MPR, and next to the College Office.

Any student who misses the first day of school for any reason will be dropped from their classes and will have to re-enroll to get a new schedule.  It is important to attend school on August 15th and every day thereafter.

There will be no class changes on the first day of school.  Request to See Counselor forms will be available beginning Wednesday.  Please note that changes are not guaranteed.  Further, please be patient and understand that student schedules may be subject to change based on efforts to balance classes, and open or close courses to meet the needs of students and academic programs.
