Lockdown Drill: We will conduct a lockdown drill this Wednesday during period 4. No one will be able to enter or exit the campus during that time. Please plan accordingly.
ID Picture Makeup for Students and Staff: If you did not take your student ID for this school year, please do so on Friday in the Library. During school, all students must have a current student ID on them at all times.

August 30
Red-Gray Schedule: For the Week of August 31, we will be on a Gray Week Schedule.
- During Gray Week, period 6 ends at 3:37 PM on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. On Tuesday and Thursday, Period 6 ends at 2:37 PM.
- Note that students in the Special Education program who share a bus with Miller CTC students will remain on campus until 3:37 PM. Our staff will communicate with these families individually about the school-site supervision plan.
Back-to-School Night: Please join us Wednesday for Back-to-School Night. This is an opportunity for parents and guardians to meet their child’s teacher and learn about the course and class expectations. This is not for individual conferences. We will have an opportunity for parent conferencing on October 15. On September 2, we will host several parent meetings starting at 5:00 PM. Classroom visits begin at 5:30 PM. Please adhere to the following schedule for classroom visits:
- Period 0 & 7: 5:30 - 5:40 PM
- Period 1: 5:48 - 5:58 PM
- Period 2: 6:06 - 6:16 PM
- Period 3: 6:24 - 6:34 PM

Class Schedule Changes: Permanent program day is September 11. After the deadline, students will receive a fail if they wish to drop a class.
School Governance Council and School Site Council Parent/Community Member Elections: We will conduct the CGC and SSC elections during Back-to-School Night in front of the PAC from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
No School: As a reminder, there will be no school on September 4 (CA Admissions Day) and September 7 (Labor Day).

August 23
Red-Gray Schedule: For the Week of August 24, we will be on a Red Week Schedule.
- During Red Week, period 6 ends at 3:37 PM on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. On Tuesday, Period 6 ends at 2:37 PM.
ID Pictures: 11th and 12th grade students will take their pictures on Monday through their Social Studies class. Ninth and 10th grade students will take pictures on Tuesday through their PE, Athletic Team, Dance, Marching Band, or Color Guard classes.
Grade-level Assemblies: Grade-level assemblies start this week. Teachers will inform students which period they will be attending.
CGC Self-Nominations: Parents or community members looking to serve on the Cleveland Governance Council may self-nominate. Forms are available on the school website and are due by Friday.
SSC Self-Nominations: We are looking for parent representatives to serve on our 2026–2027 School Site Council (SSC) The SSC is a group of parents, staff, and school leaders who work together to help improve our school. The council reviews school goals, programs, and Title I funding, and provides input on how we can best support student learning and success. The self-nomination form can be found on our school website. Deadline to self-nominate is August 28.
Class Schedule Changes: The last day for students to request fall semester schedule changes from the Counseling Department is August 28. Permanent program day is September 3. After the deadline, students will receive a fail if they wish to drop a class.
Textbook Distribution: Students who still need textbooks should go to the Counseling Office for assistance.
iReady Testing: Makeup testing will take place this week.

Textbook Distribution: We will continue distributing textbooks this week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
iReady Testing: This Tuesday and Thursday, we will administer the iReady BOY. ELA is Tuesday with Period 1 teachers; Math is Thursday with Period 2 teachers.
Coffee with the Admin: Please join us Thursday, August 20 at 9 AM in the Parent Center for our first Coffee with the Admin of the school year. You will have the chance to meet our administrative team and then we will go over the District’s We Are One resources and provide information about the first Every School Safe Module of the school year.
Class Changes: The last day to request a class change is September 4. Permanent program day is September 11. After the 11th, students seeking to drop a class will receive a fail in the course.

August 9
First Day of School: The first day of fall semester instruction begins Wednesday, August 12. Select students who opted to take zero period start classes at 7:26 AM. All other students will begin school with period 1 at 8:30 AM. Student schedules are posted on Schoology. Please check Schoology or the school website the day before school commences as counselors will continue to adjust classes until Monday, August 10. The day before school starts, we encourage students to write down or print out their schedules, if possible. Magnet students without a period 1 class, with a “hole” in their schedule, or those who need assistance should go to the indoor Dining Hall for help. Non-magnet students with similar issues should go to the Library for assistance. Please bring school supplies, your fully charged Chromebook, your Yondr pouch, and a positive, ready-to-succeed attitude each and every day. We will be on a regular day schedule and period 6 ends at 3:37 PM.
Phone-Free School Day Policy: During the school day, all cellular phones and other SMART devices must be turned off and stored in a school-issued Yondr pouch by the first class of the student’s day. Cavaliers who were never issued a pouch may get one at the Ticket Booth next to the Performing Arts Center on Day 1. Those who forget their pouch on the first day will have their phones stored in lockers located at the Ticket Booth until the end of the school day. Phones not picked up by 4 PM will be held until the following school day in the Main Office.
Annual Forms: This year, LAUSD has transitioned Annual Forms to the One Enrollment portal at enroll.lausd.net. Please make sure to complete all mandatory forms by August 17.
Class Changes: On the first day of school, counselors will be assisting new enrollees, those who do not have classes, students who have a “hole” in their schedules, or those who have duplicate classes. Schedule Adjustment Request forms will be available starting Thursday, August 13 from period 2 teachers and from the Counseling Office, E-8, and College and Career Center (i-121). The last day to request a class change is September 4. Permanent program day is September 11.
Tuesday Professional Development Schedule: Every Tuesday, we will be on a professional development (PD) early dismissal schedule. On Tuesdays, period 1 begins at 8:30 AM and period 6 ends at 2:37 PM. There will be no late buses on Tuesdays.

Textbook Distribution: Textbook distribution will begin this week through select classes. Teachers have the schedule and will be assisting students with getting all their instructional materials.
Device Distribution: Students who still need a Chromebook should complete and bring signed notification form to the Ticket Office next to the Performing Arts Center before school, during nutrition, or lunch to get their device.
Lockers: Students who still need a locker may get one during nutrition or lunch through our Student Store, which is on the first floor of our two-story H building.
Parent Portal PINS: Parents can request their Parent Portal PIN through our school website! Visit clevelandhs.org and go to the tab for "Parents."
- If parents already haven their Parent Portal PIN, click on "Link to Parent Portal" to set up the account.
- If parents would like to request their Parent Portal PIN, they can click on "Request your Parent Portal PIN." Parents will then complete a Google Form to confirm their identity to receive their child's PIN within 72 hours.
Student Handbook: The 2026-27 LAUSD Parent/Student Handbook is a great resource that outlines the policies and procedures that guide student life across the District. The Parent/Student Handbook is electronically available via the Parent Portal. We encourage you to familiarize yourself with the Parent/Student Handbook.
School Meals and Food Deliveries: All students eat free. We serve a light snack at nutrition and offer lunchtime meal options. Parents and guardians, please do not drop off lunch for students or ask that students come to the offices or front of school to pick up food. In accordance with federal, state, local and school board safety and nutritional standards and policies, the District will prohibit food and beverage deliveries - of any kind - to students during school hours. We encourage you to utilize the school's cafeteria services or provide your child with a packed lunch. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in this matter.
Stay Hydrated: It will be Valley hot this week. We have water filling stations throughout campus so students are welcome to bring water bottles and replenish them, as needed.
