August 13

Cavaliers,

Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year. We are thrilled to see returning Cavaliers again and to get to learn more about our incoming students. Know that you are welcomed here at The Land (for all) and we will do our utmost to ensure that Cleveland is a safe, nurturing place for you to thrive.

This is a reminder that school begins this Thursday, August 14. Students should check Schoology on Wednesday evening for final Day 1 classes as counselors are still reviewing schedules this Wednesday during the school day.

Temporary Transportation: Families who currently do not have school bussing and who may need temporary transportation services due to safe passage concerns are reminded that they may contact our Attendance Office to make a request. Requests will be granted based upon space on - and time of - a bus route, not to exceed 90 minutes.

Day 1 Schedules: We will be on a regular school day bell schedule. Select students with a zero period should be in class by 7:26 AM on Thursday. All remaining students will start with period 1 and be ready in their seats by 8:30 AM. Students should make sure to write down class schedules, but especially note the room location of the period 1 class. Period 1 teachers will distribute a copy of student schedules. This is the same as what students will find on Schoology Wednesday evening. Students who, for any reason, find a “hole” in their schedules are not to worry. That just means your counselor would like to see you during that period. For example, if you having a missing period 4, that means your counselor would like to see you during period 4. Your period 1 teacher will let you know where to find your counselor. Remember, on Day 1, counselors will only have time to assist new enrollees and those without a missing class period. Requests to See Counselor forms will be available starting Friday.

Day 1 Supplies: Please make sure to bring school supplies, your fully-charged school-issued Chromebook, and your school-issued Yondr pouches. All cellular and SMART-capability devices will have to be turned off and stored in a locked Yondr pouch before the first period of the student’s school day. Period 1 teachers will inform students who do not have a Yondr pouch or Chromebook on the steps to get one issued ASAP. Students who do not place their powered-down cellular or SMART devices in their pouches will have them kept in storage lockers for the remainder of the day to support a Phone-Free School Day.

Google Workspace Parent Consent: LAUSD is excited to support your child’s learning this school year with helpful digital tools, including Google Workspace for Education. These additional services and tools from Google require parent consent or your student will not have access to important applications such as Google Translate and YouTube (for educational videos). Log into the parent portal and click on "View Student Details" in the student(s) card to review and sign the Google Parental Consent form to ensure your student will have access on the first day of school: https://www.clevelandhs.org/apps/news/article/2094308

August 10

First Day of School: The first day of fall semester instruction begins Thursday, August 14. Select students who opted to take zero period start classes at 7:26 AM. All other students will begin school with period 1 at 8:30 AM. Student schedules will be posted on Schoology by Wednesday and tentative schedules are on the school website. The day before school starts, we encourage students to write down or print out their schedules, if possible. Magnet students without a period 1 class, with a “hole” in their schedule, or those who need assistance should go to the indoor Dining Hall for help. Non-magnet students with similar issues should go to the Library for assistance. Please bring school supplies, your fully charged Chromebook, your Yondr pouch, and a positive, ready-to-succeed attitude each and every day. We will be on a regular day schedule and period 6 ends at 3:38 PM.

New Students: Any student who still does not have a Chromebook or Yondr pouch is welcome to stop by the security table in front of the Administration Building this Monday between 8 AM and noon to pick up one. For Chromebooks, please make sure to have students bring a copy of the signed Parent Acknowledgement form available on the school website. Anyone checking out a device or pouch must already have their LAUSD student ID number.

Phone-Free School Day Policy: During the school day, all cellular phones and other SMART devices must be turned off and stored in a school-issued Yondr pouch by the first class of the student’s day. Cavaliers who were never issued a pouch may get one at the Ticket Booth next to the Performing Arts Center on Day 1. Those who forget their pouch on the first day will have their phones stored in lockers located at the Ticket Booth until the end of the school day. Phones not picked up by 4 PM will be held until the following school day.

Google Workspace: LAUSD is excited to support your child’s learning this school year with helpful digital tools, including Google Workspace for Education. These additional services and tools from Google require parent consent or your student will not have access to important applications such as Google Translate and YouTube (for educational videos). Log into the parent portal and click on "View Student Details" in the student(s) card to review and sign the Google Parental Consent form to ensure your student will have access on the first day of school.

Class Changes: On the first day of school, counselors will be assisting new enrollees, those who do not have classes, students who have a “hole” in their schedules, or those who have duplicate classes. Schedule Adjustment Request forms will be available starting Friday, August 15 from period 2 teachers and from the Counseling Office, E-8, and College and Career Center (i-121). The last day to request a class change is September 5. Permanent program day is September 12.

Textbook Distribution: Textbook distribution will begin Friday through select classes. Teachers have the schedule and will be assisting students with getting all their instructional materials.

Device Distribution: Students who still need a Chromebook should complete and bring signed notification form to the Ticket Office next to the Performing Arts Center before school, during nutrition, or lunch to get their device.

Lockers: Students who still need a locker may get one during nutrition or lunch through our Student Store, which is on the first floor of our two-story H building.

Parent Portal PINS: Parents can now request their Parent Portal PIN through our school website! Visit clevelandhs.org and go to the tab for "Parents."

  • If parents already haven their Parent Portal PIN, click on "Link to Parent Portal" to set up the account.
  • If parents would like to request their Parent Portal PIN, they can click on "Request your Parent Portal PIN."  Parents will then complete a Google Form to confirm their identity to receive their child's PIN within 72 hours.

Student Handbook: The 2025-26 LAUSD Parent/Student Handbook is a great resource that outlines the policies and procedures that guide student life across the District. The Parent/Student Handbook is electronically available via the Parent Portal. We encourage you to familiarize yourself with the Parent/Student Handbook.

School Meals and Food Deliveries: All students eat free. We serve a light snack at nutrition and offer lunchtime meal options. Parents and guardians, please do not drop off lunch for students or ask that students come to the offices or front of school to pick up food. In accordance with federal, state, local and school board safety and nutritional standards and policies, the District will prohibit food and beverage deliveries - of any kind - to students during school hours. We encourage you to utilize the school's cafeteria services or provide your child with a packed lunch. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in this matter.

Stay Hydrated: It will be Valley hot this week. We have water filling stations throughout campus so students are welcome to bring water bottles and replenish them, as needed.
