Needs Assessment If you have not already completed our needs assessment, please provide input on how our funds should be spent for the 2021-2022 school year. Cleveland Cabinet of Schools Town Hall Meeting Our local district will be hosting its next town hall meeting this Thursday at 6 PM regarding the 2021-2022 instructional calendar and more. Details are on our school website.

Presidents’ Day There will be no school this Monday in observance of Presidents’ Day. Odd period classes will resume on Tuesday.

    

Ninth and 10th Grade College Night is this Thursday at 6 PM. This important event is for students, parents, and guardians. Registration link is available on the school website.

 

Our Academic Decathlon Team invites you to its speech showcase this Friday, February 19 at 6 PM (see attached flyer).  

 

Credit Recovery begins this coming Saturday, February 20. Counselors have sent applications to students via Schoology. If students feel they should be enrolled, they should stop by their counselors’ Zoom office hours.  Period 0 and 7 credit recovery will begin the week of February 22.

 

Coffee with the Administrators Join us this Thursday at noon for Coffee with the Administrators where we will discuss the School Plan for Student Achievement, budgets, the District options for the 2021-2022 instructional calendar, and more.

Congratulations to our AOAT staff and students for being selected by the California Department of Education as a Distinguished Partnership Academy—the top honor in the state for any California Partnership Academy program.

The Writer’s Block Our student literary and art magazine, The Writer's Block, is now accepting submissions - ALL languages welcome! More information is available on Instagram @writersblockmag. Mail all art and writing to thewritersblockcleveland@gmail.com

Additionally, join us for Cocoa with the Counselors this Thursday at noon where we will be discussing academic intervention. Our counselors will be reaching out to students to sign up for credit recovery classes, including Saturday School. You may also contact your counselor during Virtual Office Hours and via email and Schoology if you need to enroll.  

 

2021-2022 Instructional Calendar The LAUSD Board will be looking at two options for the 2021-2022 school year that adds 10 instructional days: https://achieve.lausd.net/cms/lib/CA01000043/Centricity/ModuleInstance/45663/Extending%20the%20academic%20year.pdf.

 

Our local district will also be hosting townhall meetings regarding the topic (see attached flyer).  We will also discuss it during our Coffee with the Administrators on February 18.

 

School Experience Survey—Period H Thank you for all your efforts. We had an 81% student participation rate, over a 20% increase from the previous year and higher than any comprehensive high school in our local district.

Good afternoon,

This is Cleveland Charter High School Principal Cindy Duong with an important message for parents and guardians. You may have seen news coverage about a civil lawsuit involving allegations of misconduct at our school more than 20 years ago. While we cannot comment on litigation, I want to reassure you the safety and well-being of our students remains our top priority. Thank you, and take care.

School Experience Survey—Period H  Our student participation rate is now at 71%. Our goal is at least 75%.  If you have not done so, please ask your Period H teacher for the link to complete the survey. The deadline for submission is February 5. 

Financial Aid Workshop Seniors, if you need assistance with completing your financial aid applications, please attend one of our school or local district workshops. Ms. Drell sent you the information through Schoology.

School Experience Survey—Period H  Our student participation rate on the school experience survey is only 58%.  Students, if you do not have the link to the survey that was emailed to you by the District last semester, your period H teacher can provide you with it. The deadline has been extended to February 5.

Last Day to Request a Class Change Friday, January 29 is the last day for students to request spring schedule changes from their counselors.

January 17:

No School on Monday There will be no school tomorrow in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s birthday. Classes resume Tuesday with odd periods. Looking ahead, starting Monday, January 25, students are expected to attend live, synchronous instruction.                 

School Experience Survey—Period H Our student participation rate on the school experience survey is only 39%.  Students, if you do not have the link to the survey that was emailed to you by the District last semester, your period 1 teacher can provide you with it. Parents, we also ask that you please submit your responses as well. We are at 38% submittal rate for parents. The link is available on our school website. Presidential Inauguration Although we will not ask that teachers live-stream the historic inauguration this Wednesday, we have reminded those who plan to do so to use their best professional judgment, to remain mindful, and to avoid partisanship. If your child’s teacher is planning to show the ceremony and you do not wish to have your child watch it, you may request an alternative assignment from the instructor. 

Textbook Distribution Students who need textbooks for new second semester classes should call our main line, 818-885-2300, to set up appointments with our clerical staff in advance. Our clerical staff will notify Mr. Ford. Students or parents must come with a face mask and student ID, if available (middle school LAUSD ID will work). Appointments are available as follows: 

  • Week of January 18: Tuesday and Wednesday, 2 PM to 3:30 PM
  • Week of January 25: Monday, 12 PM to 3:30 PM; Tuesday and Wednesday, 2 PM to 3:30 PM

Last Day to Request a Class Change Friday, January 29 is the last day for students to request spring semester schedule changes from their counselors.

PSAT will not be administered this year. There will be an alternative method to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship program. Please contact the College Counselor for details.

Welcome back, Cavaliers. We look forward to seeing you again in the Virtual Land for the start of spring semester.

Monday, January 11 is a Pupil-Free Day for students. There will be no classes. The first day of spring semester instruction begins on Tuesday, January 12 with odd period classes, 1, 3, 5, and 7. You will find your classes on Schoology.  

If you have questions, you may use our Virtual Help Desk that will be available this Monday from 10 AM to 12 PM and this Tuesday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 10 AM. Counselors will also have special Zoom hours this week to assist with spring program questions, in addition to their regular office hours. Seniors, don’t forget to check Schoology updates for information posted by our College Counselor regarding the Cash for College event this Tuesday as well as many scholarship opportunities. Ms. Drell will also host a FAFSA and CA Dream Act Application workshop on Saturday, January 23.

The spring semester bell schedule is slightly different.  Looking ahead, starting Monday, January 25, there will be mandatory, live synchronous instruction on Mondays for ALL students.  Again, on all Mondays starting January 25 (excluding holidays), we will have live instruction. Teachers will also hold office hours Monday through Friday this semester during distance learning.
