The meal application deadline is this Thursday. Looking ahead, please remember that we will have a “flipped” schedule November 9-13, in which the odd period days will be flipped with the even period days to ensure the same number of instructional days per period.  Details are on the school website.

October 18th

This Monday, please make sure to check in with your odd period classes – 1, 3, 5, 7.  

Students in grades 10-12, your period L advisory teachers should have posted a link for you to complete a Districtwide safety survey.  If they have not, please ask them for the link. The deadline to submit your response is Tuesday, October 20 at 2 PM.

Other than Monday intervention with classroom teachers, schoolwide tutoring via Zoom is available for select courses. Check out the home page of the website for Fall Tutoring opportunities.

The College Office has scheduled many virtual college visits for students. This Monday, CSUN will be on Zoom at 10 AM, UC Irvine at 11:30 AM, Cal Poly at 12:30 PM, and Lewis and Clark at 1 PM.

On Tuesday, we are offering our UC/CSU Q & A at 2:30 PM via Zoom, Wednesday we have a Private Colleges student panel at 4 PM, and Thursday we have the FAFSA/CA Dream Act Application Q&A at 2:30 PM. If you have not joined the College Counselors’ Schoology Groups, do so ASAP to get links or contact your academic counselor for assistance.

Grades 9-12, we will have a Virtual College Fair October 21-22. The link was posted in your Schoology updates.

Juniors, this Thursday is College Knowledge Night at 5 PM. The link to register is on the home page of the school website.

AP Students – if you have not done so, please access your Join Code. The information is available from your Advanced Placement instructor. You will need to do this in order to access resources and pay for your AP exams.

Interested in being a Cleveland cheerleader? The tryout informational meeting is this Monday at 3 PM. Zoom information is on the school website and Instagram account.

Our first Cleveland Governance Council meeting is this Tuesday at 2:15 PM via Zoom. The agenda and meeting ID are posted on the school website.

Join the College Office Tuesday for a CSU and UC application workshop, Wednesday for a UC student panel, and Thursday for a FAFSA and CA Dream Act Application Q&A. Zoom information is posted on Schoology.

This Thursday, we will be participating in the Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drill during the advisory period.

Also, this Thursday we have Coffee with the Administrators at noon. Topics include the Safe School Plan, Title I updates, and the Attendance Plan.

Seniors, Monday is the mandatory Senior Assembly at 11 AM. Don’t forget to register and attend. There will be important information disseminated during the meeting.

Every Wednesday during this month, the College Office will host college student panels. This Wednesday, at 4 PM, join us for a CSU Student Panel and hear directly from students attending the Cal State system. The link to register is available on Schoology.

Parents and Guardians – Join us this Thursday for Cocoa with the Counselors at noon. Our counseling staff will be discussing college and career information.

We are still missing many meal applications. Don’t forget to submit your application as the deadline is approaching. Our Title I funding depends on you.

September 27

There will be no school this Monday.

Parents and guardians, Tuesday is the Cleveland Governance Council elections.  The link to vote will be available on the school website that day and voting will be from 7:30 AM to 3:15 PM. If you do not have access to online voting, you may come in person to our information booth in front of the Administration Building to cast your ballot.  You will need your child’s Student ID number in order to vote.

Credit recovery classes will begin this week. If students feel they should be enrolled, they should contact their counselor.

Join Board Member Scott Schmerelson and Assemblyman Jesse Gabriel on September 30th at 4 PM as they host a Zoom Webinar on Applying to College. Spanish and ASL translation will be available. The registration link is on our website.

Our PTSA Meeting and Elections are this Wednesday at 6 PM. The link is available on the school website.  Additionally, don’t forget our membership drive ends this Friday.

Seniors, every Thursday in October, we will be offering a Q&A session on the FAFSA and California Dream Act application at 2:30 p.m. on Zoom. The link will be posted in Schoology. Additionally, seniors who need counselor recommendations for colleges, don’t forget the deadline to request one is October 1st.

Class of 2021, the application window for UC and CSU applications opens this Thursday and so does the application for the FAFSA.

Parents and community members: if you are interested in being a part of the Cleveland Governance Council, self-nomination forms are now available on the school website. The deadline to nominate yourself is this Friday.

This Tuesday at 3 PM, we will have our first School Site Council meeting.  All are welcome. The link is on the school website.

Our local district is offering a Parent Portal training via Zoom on Wednesday at 10 AM. The flyer is posted on the homepage of the website.

Class of 2021, make sure to register for Financial Aid Night for seniors. The webinar is this Thursday at 5 PM. This is open to students and their parents and guardians. Sign-ups are available on the home page of the school website.

Looking ahead - credit recovery classes will begin the week of September 28. We will be offering Period 0, Period 7, and Saturday School for students to recover credits.  Counselors will be sending electronic applications via Schoology.  If students feel they should be enrolled, they may stop by the counselors' Zoom office hours at 11:40 AM. 

Additionally, there will be no school on Monday, September 28.

There is no school Monday in observance of Labor Day.

On Tuesday, join ASB for Pajama Day in the Virtual Land as you roll out of bed and into your odd period classes, 1, 3, 5, and 7. Then on Friday, we have school spirit day so put on some red, black or white or other Cleveland attire and show your Cleveland pride. 

The PTSA Drive is underway. Membership is $10. The link to join is available on the homepage of the school website. 

Parents and Guardians – join us on September 10th at noon for our first Cocoa with the Counselors on Zoom.

On Monday, attendance will be taken for even periods. Please make sure to check in with your periods 2,4,6, and 0 teachers to ensure you have participated in the synchronous or asynchronous instructional activity needed to be marked present for the day. 

Back-to-School Night is this Wednesday from 5 PM to 7:15 PM. Parents will join Back-to-School Night from within Schoology using their child's LAUSD account.  The schedule of program meetings and period-by-period sessions are available on the school website. Teachers will be posting sign-in sheets for their sessions during the meetings.

The last day for students to request a class change is September 4.   

Student planners are free and available at the help desk outside the front of the Administration Building daily from 8 AM to 3 PM.

To accommodate instructional hours, textbook/device distribution and exchanges will be as follows: Monday from 8 AM to 3 PM; Tuesday-Thursday from 7:45 AM to 8:45 AM, and again from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM. Students should go to the help desk outside the front of the Administration Building for assistance.

August 23

We hope you had a relatively successful first few days of school. We are all still adjusting so breathe when things get frustrating and please keep in mind that flexibility and patience are key.

Bell Schedule: This is the first full week of our virtual bell schedule. Monday is office hours from 9 AM to 12 PM. On Tuesday and Thursday, our odd periods will meet and on Wednesday and Friday, our even periods will meet.

Class Changes: If you need to add or drop a class, go onto our school website and select the Fall 2020 Program Repair link. Counselors are hosting Zoom sessions this week at 8 AM. You may also fill out the Google Form for assistance. 

Textbook/Device Distribution: Our location and schedule have changed. August 16

Welcome to our fall semester 2020 in the Virtual Land. The first day of school is Tuesday, August 18.  By 9 AM, please make sure to log onto Schoology using your LAUSD single sign-on email and password.  Attendance for Day 1 of school will be taken when you log onto Schoology to complete the mandatory online modules. After lunch, at 1 PM, you will log onto a Zoom Webinar for the Principal’s Welcome and Week 1 Overview followed by orientation. Zoom information is posted on our school website and was sent via Schoology.

If you do not have your LAUSD email or Student PIN, the District is mailing you that information. You may also get it by calling our Main Office on Monday, August 17 from 8 AM to 3 PM.

On Wednesday, August 19, students will again log onto Schoology by 9 AM to complete mandatory online modules. Starting at 1 PM, students will participate in Meet and Greet sessions with teachers and counselors. The schedule and session information will be posted on our school website by Tuesday.

On Thursday and Friday, we will begin using our Virtual Learning Bell Schedule. On Thursday, periods 1, 3, 5, and 7 will meet.  On Friday, periods 2, 4, 6, and 0 will meet.

August 9

The new school year is fast approaching.  Please join me on Tuesday at 11 AM or 6 PM for a community meeting to go over updates about our new school year, including the bell schedule we will be using.  Zoom Webinar registration is available on the school website. We will also provide an overview of the first week of school which begins August 18 for students.  

Additionally, textbook and device distribution continues this week with grades 9-11. Make-up is Saturday, August 15. You can book your appointment online.

Please remember that textbook and device distribution begins tomorrow. The schedule is divided by grade levels and by last names.  If you have not booked your appointment yet, please go on the school website to do so immediately.  We will schedule makeup days on Saturday, August 15 and during the first week of school. More details to follow.

Tentative student schedules are available on the school website.  Depending on class sizes, staffing, summer school grades, or other issues, counselors will be modifying class schedules between now and August 1. For questions or concerns regarding a student’s fall schedule, please submit requests via the Google link located on Cleveland home page. Schedules will be printed after August 1.

Textbook and electronic device distribution will take place August 5-August 14 by appointment only.  Please go on the school website to book an appointment and to complete necessary District forms prior to the appointment.

Parents and guardians, if you have not signed up for the LAUSD Parent Portal, please do so.  We will also have stations available during textbook and device distribution.

Orientation for new students and incoming 9th graders will be on August 12 at 5 PM. Zoom webinar registration information will be available next week.

We understand there are many questions regarding the format of how virtual learning will take place starting August 18. As soon as we get more details from the District, we will set up several Zoom sessions to go over the information. Thank you for your patience.
