US Army JROTC

Course Description

The Vision of Grover Cleveland Charter High School is to nurture global citizens who pursue academic excellence, realize personal success, and demonstrate social responsibility.  Cleveland’s Army JROTC Program focuses on leadership development, character education, student achievement, and social responsibility that facilitate the nurturing process.  The JROTC mission of motivating young people to be better citizens is consistent with Cleveland’s vision and mission.  As your Senior Instructor, it is my job to also ensure that each Cadet first of all graduates from high school and has a plan for after graduation.  High School graduation represents a huge life change because it is that final step between childhood and adulthood.  We are here to help each Cadet through that life change. Our class focuses on 7 different content areas:  Citizenship in Action; Leadership Theory and Application; Foundations for Success; Wellness, Fitness & First Aid; Geography, Map Skills, and Environmental Awareness; Citizenship in American History and Government; and Cadet Safety and Civilian Marksmanship. Unlike other classes at Cleveland; JROTC serves grades 9th through 12th   and it is very common to have students from all 4 years of high school in the same period.  Our class is particularly suited for students with special educational needs as well as English Language Learners. The Junior ROTC program is a cooperative effort on the part of the United States Army and the host institution to provide secondary school students with opportunities for personal development. The flexibility of the program allows it to bear the scrutiny of professional educators and to meet the needs of the Cleveland area. Lessons are professionally prepared and meet all national content standards for each respective subject area.  .
