This is Principal Cindy Duong, with an important message for our Cleveland High School families.
I want to provide you an update on the incident that occurred yesterday and to reassure you that the safety and well-being of students and staff remain our top priorities. It is important that we dispel rumors about the incident, and share about how the school and District are responding.
Although the investigation is still ongoing, we know only a very small group of students was involved in yesterday’s altercation.
However, it was witnessed by many other students, which made it appear to be much larger. There was no weapon involved, and no adults were injured as a result of the altercation.
This incident was not a result of gang conflict, but rather ongoing, embedded personal differences and comments related to the current political climate.
It is District and law enforcement protocol to implement a lockdown to control an unfolding incident and to provide safety to other students.
The District is following the appropriate disciplinary due process for those involved and providing support services to mediate any tension that still exists.
I ask that you encourage your children to do their part to create an inclusive environment, and if they should need to speak with an adult, we are all here to care for them.
Thank you for you continued support.
