School Violence Prevention Presentations are this Monday and Tuesday. Teachers have been provided with the schedule.

Early Dismissal Tuesdays: Every Tuesday, we will be on a professional development (PD) early dismissal schedule. On Tuesdays, period 1 begins at 8:30 AM and period 6 ends at 2:38 PM. There will be no late buses on Tuesdays.  

Finals Schedule: Finals are Wednesday and Thursday. On Wednesday, students will take periods 0, 1, 3, 5, and 7 finals. On Thursday, students will take periods 0, 2, 4,6, and 7 finals. School will end at 3:38 PM during finals.  

Minimum Day Schedule: Friday is a minimum day. Period 6 ends at 1:13 PM. There will be no late buses that day.

Attendance Challenge: Attendance Matters! There are only 5 school days before the end of the semester. Come to school every day and be eligible for some great prizes, events, and other incentives. Don’t miss out on all the great goodies and activities we have planned this coming Friday to kick off Winter Break.

Winter Academy: Students – if you need support with Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra 2, or English, please remember to sign up for Winter Academy to get additional help. Start your spring semester out with the math and reading skills you need to be successful. Meals will be provided. If you do not have an application, it is available in all offices, on Schoology, and on the website. Return the completed application to the Counseling Office.

P-ACE: Students who are currently not getting a C or better in academic courses - there is still time to raise those grades before the end of the semester. Ask your counselor or teacher about our pre-academic course extension (P-ACE) opportunities. If you need additional time over winter break, talk to your counselor or teacher about an ACE contract and sign up for Winter Academy to get support. Don’t miss out.

SSC Meeting: We will have our next School Site Council Meeting this Tuesday at 3:45 PM in the Principal’s Conference Room. Details are available on the home page of the school website.

Winter Academy: We hope you’ll join us from December 18 to 20 for our Winter Academy. The registration deadline has been extended to this Tuesday, November 28. Register now at LAUSD.org/winteracademy. The Winter Academy will provide students with extra classroom support in addition to healthy meals and enrichment activities designed to encourage exploration. Homeroom Door Decorating Contest and Toy Drive: Don’t forget to ask your period 2 teachers about the Winter Wonderland Door Decorating Contest and Toy Drive. There are prizes for the top three winners. The toys collected will benefit students from nearby Napa Elementary.

TIES/Minimum Day: This Wednesday is our second targeted intervention and enrichment support day. Teachers will use class time to provide individual and small group academic assistance or enrichment. Students, the 10-week grading period is fast-approaching. Use this opportunity to seek help, as needed. As it is a minimum day, school will let out at 1:13 PM.

The topic is Suicide Prevention Awareness. A student version of this presentation will be delivered to students the week of October 9.

Homecoming Dance: The Homecoming Dance will be held on campus Saturday, October 7. Those attending should make sure to adhere to the dance dress code and bring their current student ID.

Coffee with the Administrators: Please join us Thursday, September 7 in the Parent Center for our first Coffee with the Administrators for the school year. You will have the opportunity to meet the administrative staff. We will also go over the LAUSD Every School Safe module on “Sexual Grooming Awareness.” Please note that students will receive a presentation entitled “Inappropriate Interactions Awareness” during the week of September 11.

ID Picture Makeups: ID Picture Makeup Day is Friday, September 8. Students who did not take their ID pictures on the designated grade-level days will receive a summons during their period 2 this Thursday with the information and location for Friday’s makeup session.

Class Schedules:  Permanent program day is September 8. After this day, students who choose to drop a class will receive a “Fail” for the course.

Cleveland Governance Council: At Grover Cleveland Charter High School, we believe that parent involvement is essential to student achievement. Thus, we encourage all parents to become active participants at the school. One such way to accomplish this is by serving as a member of the Cleveland Governance Council. The CGC has purview over six areas: hiring staff, equipment, scheduling, budget, discipline, and professional development. If you are interested in serving on the CGC, please complete the self-nomination form. The deadline is September 5.

ID Pictures: Tenth grade students will take pictures through their PE and athletic classes on Tuesday. Ninth grade students will take their pictures through their PE and athletic courses on Wednesday.

Early Dismissal Tuesdays: Every Tuesday, we will be on a professional development (PD) early dismissal schedule. On Tuesdays, period 1 begins at 8:30 AM and period 6 ends at 2:38 PM. There will be no late buses on Tuesdays.

Back-to-School Night: Back-to-School Night is this Wednesday. There will be parent meetings beginning at 5 PM and classroom visits where teachers will be providing an overview of their courses starting at 5:30 PM.

TIES Day: Thursday is our first targeted intervention and enrichment day for the school year. This is an opportunity for students to receive extra support or enrichment in each of their class periods.

Minimum Day Schedule: This Thursday, we will be on a minimum day schedule. School lets out at 1:13 PM.

Class Schedules: The last day to request a class change is August 31. Permanent program day is September 8.

This is Grover Cleveland Charter High School Principal Cindy Duong with an important message for families.

At the direction of the Superintendent, and in coordination with local officials and emergency personnel, our school will be closed for instruction tomorrow, Monday, August 21, 2023, due to severe weather conditions. Please do not go to our school campus.

To ensure continuity of learning for students, we have taken multiple steps to provide lessons and activities that can be accessed at LAUSD.org or through your child’s Schoology at lms.lausd.net. As an additional resource, programming will be available on KLCS-TV.

We will continue to send you updates on the status of our school directly via email and telephone. You may also find updates online at LAUSD.org/schoolupdates, on social media @LASchools and on television on KLCS-TV.

If families and students need additional help, please contact the hotline at (213) 443-1300.

We expect to resume school on Tuesday, August 22, 2023. Please continue to follow the advice of your local officials and please stay safe.

This is Ms. Duong from Grover Cleveland Charter High School with your updates for the week of August 21. 

The LANDing Ground: Join us every day at lunch for staff-led self-care workshops and activities in L-109. Please remember no food or drink is allowed. We ask that everyone silences phones and other electronic devices while in the relaxation space. Additionally, it is a shoe-free zone so please place footwear in the racks located inside the entrance. Yoga is also available Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:45 PM to 4:30 PM. Space is limited.

School-Issued Laptops: Students should bring their fully-charged school-issued devices daily. Anyone who did not come to the new student orientation can go to device.lausd.net to complete a request.

Textbooks: If you missed textbook distribution, please go to the Textbook Room this Wednesday to get materials.

Lockers: Students who do not have a locker may request one from the Student Store, located on the bottom floor of our two-story H building.  

Hurricane Hilary Preparations: In preparation for the storm that is expected to impact Southern California, our school has taken several precautions to ensure the safety of our students. School is one of the safest places for students to be in the event of inclement weather. In addition to our strong safety protocols, we will continue to communicate with District operations and local officials to ensure the safety of everyone on campus. For the latest information about the impact of the storm, please visit LAUSD.org. Updates about our school will also be communicated to families directly.

After School: After school, campus will be cleared by 4 PM. Any student not involved in staff-supervised practices, rehearsals, tutoring, or the Boys and Girls Club Future Ready program will need to exit campus after that time. The Future Ready program is free to all Cavaliers and is available until 6 PM in N1.

School Meals: All students eat free. We serve a light snack at nutrition and offer lunchtime meal options. Parents and guardians, please do not drop off lunch for students or ask that students come to the offices or front of school to pick up food. Our staff will be supporting students and school personnel in other capacities and will not be available to help with lunch deliveries.

Class Schedules: This Monday, students will pick up their fall semester schedules from their period 1 teachers. The list of period 1 classes and student schedules are posted on the website – students will need their District ID numbers to access the information. Students without a period 1 class, with a “hole” in their schedule, or those who need assistance should go to the indoor Dining Hall for help: https://www.clevelandhs.org/apps/news/article/259926

 

Class Changes: On the first day of school, counselors will be assisting new enrollees, those who do not have classes, students who have a “hole” in their schedules, or those who have duplicate classes. Schedule Adjustment Request forms will be available starting Tuesday, August 15 from period 2 teachers and from the Counseling Office. The last day to request a class change is August 31. Permanent program day is September 8.
