Education and Experience

Donna Mercer graduated cum laud with a degree in Fine Arts from the College of William and Mary in
Williamsburg, Virginia. She brings to Cleveland the
experiences of a previous life in graphic design, where she created corporate identity and collateral materials, advertising and packaging. Her years at MCA Records as Advertising Art Director gave her a clear view of just one career path available to art students, and her time spent as a volunteer art docent forged her desire to
move into education.

Mrs. Mercer focuses on improving students' ability to see, opening their eyes to observe and record, which is the foundation of drawing. Students become familiar with the elements and principles of composition and art criticism, focusing on the California Visual Arts
Standards and Framework. The curriculum includes art history, critical thinking and writing, experimentation with a variety of art media, and connections to other cultures and life experience. Each student builds a portfolio which illustrates his or her progress in creating, problem-solving and writing about art.
